Life coaches partner with clients, helping them achieve their goals, build self-confidence, make positive mindset shifts, overcome challenges, navigate life changes, identify and leverage strengths, recognize and overcome weaknesses, and provide for personal and professional development. Our certified life coach aims to help individuals make, meet, and exceed personal and/or professional goals by harnessing techniques based on core psychological principles. A life coach will not simply tell you what to do. Instead, they will use a variety of techniques to help you uncover the answers within yourself.

How is a life coach different from a therapist?Therapy focuses on mental health: understanding, resolving, and healing emotional trauma. Therapists help clients process the past and adjust to the present and are licensed to diagnose mental health disorders. Life coaching focuses on goals: identifying current situations, realizing dreams and aspirations, creating a plan to reach those goals, and accountability in tangible steps toward those goals. Currently, states do not require life coaches to be licensed or certified, and they do not have the authority to diagnose mental health disorders. Our life coach at Best Life is certified by the ICF – International Coaching Foundation – as a Life Coach and Addiction Recovery Coach - and also has a master’s degree in psychology but is not a licensed therapist.

What can I expect in life coaching sessions?Coaching is an individualized, supportive, targeted, interactive process designed to facilitate concrete personal and professional changes. This is done through powerful conversations, targeted exercises, and supportive accountability intended to inspire new thinking, perceptions, and behaviors that actualize potential, identify strengths and weaknesses, improve performance, create clarity, and manifest the achievement of personal and professional goals. Often, the largest focus is on self-awareness and goal setting. Clients are asked questions about their current life situation and the direction they would like their life to go. A key belief in coaching is that we already have the answers we need within us. A coach’s role is to help find these answers through questioning, active listening, observation, specialized reflective exercises, and self-awareness activities.

When and where would I meet with my coach?Typically, individuals meet with their coach once a week, but at minimum biweekly, for 45 min sessions, at a mutually agreed upon time. Group coaching sessions are held at a set time/day weekly for 1-hour sessions. This ideal schedule offers time for reflection and implementation of techniques between sessions while maintaining the momentum of our work together. Most coaches encourage a 3–9-month commitment in order to achieve the results clients are seeking. In order to make coaching as convenient and accessible as possible, we offer all coaching services via phone or video chat. This means that you can attend sessions from the comfort of your home or any quiet and private place while saving you time and money not having to go to an office. This also offers greater flexibility in scheduling, not confined to normal working hours or dependency on child-care facilities. Virtual group sessions allow assorted groups of people to gather and express shared experiences with a variety of opinions and perspectives.
